I fell in love with digital illustrations, but it’s about time to renew my CSP annual duel plan and I don’t want to. Choosing to use only one device for the software, I picked up what most mangakas use to illustrate their characters. Watercolor, markers and color pencils!!!
To make a long post short,
- Draw sketch in red colored pencil using cold-pressed watercolor paper
- Load sketch in scanner and scan in color
- Print copied sketch in color
- Paint original cold-pressed picture
Now for the good part. In case you mess up, you have a copy of the sketch in red. I say this because I mess up and often times the original is so good you don’t want to redraw it.
With the copy, use a light box if you mess up. The light is bright enough to be able go see the printing under cold-pressed paper. If not outline the copy sketch with a darker maker, pen or crayon.
And that’s it!! Embrace using traditional tools.
