“Can we go back to the way we once were?”
“That part of our lives is over now.”
“Ourselves together isn’t over until those sacred words come to reality. ‘Till death do us part’ as the pastor said. Don’t you remember reciting those words to me?”
“All I said was ‘I do” in agreement. But if something isn’t meant to be, who am I to go against it. You declared what you thought in a fuel of fury. How do you think I should respond to that? With glee that you despise me?”
“They are nothing but words.”
“Words! Oh, really? How would you feel if I said ‘you are nothing from what you use to be. A vibrant spirit who’s laughter was similar to a light brush autumn wind against your ear. Now you laugh a heinous cackle like a witch observing it’s mischievous deeds.”
“Those are nothing but words.”
“You are nothing from what you use to be. I no longer see it behind the deception you paint over your face. Yet, even when the colorful layers are removed, I still cant find the woman I wed. I gaze into your eyes since they are the windows to the soul. Unfortunately, I catch sorrow or annoyance.”
“Nothing but words.
“Your true beauty has faded, or rather neglected due to this false image you have created. For the world too. Not for me. So when you stated you hate me in your natural form, I took it to heart for there is power in the tongue, my love.”
“THOSE ARE NOTHING BUT WORDS!”
“Nothing but words? Then why are you angry? Oh yes, as you said before. You hate me. For what? I dont know. And besides, who’s to say if those words possessed little to no truth. You spoke them, so what happens next? Infidelity?”
“Alright. I understand. I never should have said it.”
“Those words were filled with festering resentment. Not even an apology could diffuse the contempt. It would be like putting a Daffodil on feces. For that I am leaving you. The constraint I felt in my heart is something I never want to experience again. I am not the apple of your eye. I am a mistake you resent.”
“What about the promises we made on our wedding day?”
“Those were nothing but words.”
